Event Information

A full day workshop geared towards all levels of Tenor and Bass drummers from beginner to advanced. A drum and sticks/mallets are required for these sessions. Each session is 1 hour 15 min in length with a 15 min break between sessions.
Session 1: Kyle Heaney
DEVELOP YOUR PLAYING: Focus on rudiments and stick control. Develop your playing within a midsection. Big arms, arm movements, and time playing. How does theory affect playing and understanding?
Session 2: Kyle Heaney
DEVELOP NEW FLOURISHES: New theory: There are only spins and stops. Linear flourishes - trying new angles to get the most out of your repertoire. Independent flourishing.
1 Hour Break
Session 3: Kyle Heaney
READING, WRITING & ARITHMETIC: Reading vs. site reading. Understanding music theory as it applies to tenor drummers. Creating coherent scores.
Session 4: Kyle Heaney
TOTAL MIDSECTION ORCHESTRATION: How to put together all elements of a midsection score for band use. Voicing - melody and harmony. Chord structure and progression. Adding flourishes and arm movements.
