The Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association Provincial Vocal Competition is held every year and showcases some of the most talented student performers from across Ontario. Students must first compete locally at the ORMTA branch level. The local branch winner then qualifies to compete at their regional zone competition. Winners of each zone competition across Ontario then earn the right to advance to the provincial competition.

Students are expected to perform a stylistically balanced programme of at least three selections in two or more languages within the 20-minute time limit at a Grade 9, 10, and/or Associate level. This is a great opportunity to hear fine performances by talented young singers.

Names, photos and short biographies of the finalists will be posted on this webpage later in June.

In addition to the events taking place in the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts Concert Hall that are open to the public, there are numerous sessions running throughout the days of July 22-24 on such topics as music pedagogy and music teaching resources and technology. Anyone can purchase a day pass to any day of the convention for $120 per day. Day passes can be purchased in-person on the desired day at a table in the IBCPA lobby or in advance at the following website which also provides a schedule of all convention activities: https://www.ormta.org/2022-convention

The ORMTA 2022 Kingston Convention is grateful for the support of The Ballytobin Foundation in subsidizing the costs of presenting the convention’s events in the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Additionally, ORMTA would like to acknowledge the lead sponsorship of this convention provided by Queen’s University’s DAN School of Drama and Music and the Faculty of Arts and Science.
